Tingha is a quaint township, a leisurely 24km drive south east of Inverell. Tingha was established on Anaiwan land with the name believed to mean “flat or open land”.
In 1870, Tin was discovered in Tingha after an initial find north of Elsmore. At its peak, Tingha was the largest tin producing area in NSW, employing approximately 8,000 people, 2,000 of which were Chinese.
Wing Hing Long was purchased in 1881 by storekeeper, Ah Lin to establish a
general store servicing the tin mining communities of the Tingha district. His was a typical general store where you could buy anything and everything. Today this amazing museum is open as a dedication to the Chinese miners who called Tingha home.
